  1. Billing signs new Bournemouth dealpublished at 15:52 21 August

    Philip BillingImage source, Getty Images

Bournemouth have confirmed midfielder Philip Billing has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old Denmark international joined the Cherries from Huddersfield in 2019 and has made 160 appearances in all competitions, scoring 29 goals.

He will stay at Vitality Stadium until 2027.

Billing said: "I’m really pleased to be staying here for another four years.

"I’ve loved my time here and the project is really exciting, the players we have bought in and the training ground developments are great things for the club.

"I want to build on last season, score more goals, add more performances to help this club establish itself in the Premier League."

    Your Views

We asked for your views on Saturday's game between Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Here are some of your comments:

    Liverpool fans

Ian: Very lucky to beat Bournemouth, despite the red card which was a very poor decision by the referee and VAR. But being totally honest, the defending, like last season, is shambolic and even Virgil is playing poorly. Trent is not a full-back, he is a wing back so maybe revert to a back three. Klopp is to blame for not bringing in any new defenders!

Stevo: Why can’t they get the big decisions right? It’s because "clear and obvious" is being used as a way to back the referee’s decision, except in the most extreme cases. VAR should be great and should be used to get the decision right, but until "clear and obvious" is removed I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Muaz: Defence was weak at start and I cannot believe the goal we conceded in only three minutes. The reaction was stellar: Luis Diaz scored an amazing goal and then that penalty rebound goal from Salah was amazing. Even after the undeserved Mac Allister red card, Diogo Jota scored another goal. Szoboszlai was a monster on the pitch. Great debut for Endo.

Ben: What a great game. Was at the game and thought it would be a tough 90 minutes to begin with, but we pulled through and really showed we were the better side, even with 10 men. Great performance from our new men and great debut from Endo.

    Bournemouth fans

Charl: What a difference! Bournemouth we’re excellent. Great to watch, well done Iraola who was tactically very good. Having two very good full-backs helps. We’re missing a ball winner in midfield such as Lewis Cook and had Semenyo stayed on instead of Moore, we might have sneaked a draw.

Clive: Considering the absences through injury, it was a great start. Unfortunately unable to maintain at present, this is the model the manager wants. Traore must be given a start in place of Billing, who must be moved on.

Brian: Looks like Bournemouth could face another season without being awarded a penalty! I suspect leading 2- 0 they would not have made some of the defence decisions they made that cost goals later on.

Stew: I'm really happy, it was a great show from the lads and a very good game. I think we are in for a really good season. The first two games have shown it's going to be a very entertaining and successful season.

  4. Bournemouth complete Adams signingpublished at 09:17 20 August

    Tyler AdamsImage source, Getty Images

Bournemouth have signed midfielder Tyler Adams from Leeds United on a five-year deal.

The United States international becomes the Cherries' seventh summer signing.

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said: "We’re thrilled to have brought Tyler to the club and he is a player we’ve admired for a long time.

"It’s been widely documented how much his talents have been recognised in this transfer window by other clubs, so to have him sign for AFC Bournemouth shows the ambition we have as a club.

"Tyler is an exciting player who possesses plenty of experience for someone that is just 24 years of age and we’re looking forward to working with him as he’s a player we know will be a great addition to our squad."

  5. Analysis: Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouthpublished at 19:24 19 August

Michael Emons, BBC Sport at Anfield

After losing 9-0 at Anfield last year, Bournemouth fans could have been a bit apprehensive about their trip to Merseyside.

However, a bright start saw Jaidon Anthony put the ball in the net in the first minute only to be denied by an assistant's flag, before Bournemouth scored for real in the third minute as Antoine Semenyo netted with a low strike after the hosts had lost possession.

The fans were dreaming of their first ever win at Anfield, but two goals in a nine-minute spell saw the home side move into the lead and they never let it go.

Boss Andoni Iraola, whose side played with bravery and were not afraid to push men forward, was unhappy with the award of a penalty that led to the Reds' second goal as Mohamed Salah converted the rebound after Neto had parried his spot-kick.

The harsh sending off of Alexis Mac Allister in the 58th minute seemed to offer Bournemouth hope, but Liverpool extended their lead only four minutes later when Neto could not hold on to a shot and Diogo Jota pounced.

Substitutes Justin Kluivert and Hamed Traore had efforts saved by Alisson to deny the fans a thrilling finish as Liverpool ran out deserved winners.

But there is plenty to be positive about for Cherries fans. Iraola's side played some really nice football, looked a threat going forwards and gave a good account of themselves. This season could be a lot of fun for Bournemouth supporters.

  6. Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouth: What Iraola said published at 17:32 19 August

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola to BBC Sport: "We started well. We had a goal disallowed, we scored, we had another chance and with some mistakes from their keeper and defenders we played high but from there they improved and they pushed us.

"We take a lot of pride in the first half. We were doing pretty well and then the penalty came. It is soft. There is contact but it is a soft, soft contact. It was not an easy game to referee. If there is contact normally they don’t ask for second opinions. It was quite clear.

"I think we had quite a lot of chances. We scored one, had one disallowed and at the end we had three or four clear chances and should have scored."

  7. Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouth: Key statspublished at 17:26 19 August

    • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League games at Anfield (W10 D3), while they haven’t lost their first home game of a top-flight campaign in any of the last 20 seasons.

    • Bournemouth have now lost their last five Premier League away games against The Reds by an aggregate score of 20-2. Overall, they’ve only taken one point from a possible 21 on trips to Anfield in the competition.

    • Luis Díaz scored in consecutive Premier League games for Liverpool for the first time, while he’s the first player to score the Reds’ first two goals of a league campaign since Daniel Sturridge in 2013-14.

    • Antoine Semenyo’s opener for The Cherries was the quickest goal scored by an away side at Anfield in the Premier League since May 2022.

    • Trent Alexander-Arnold made his 200th appearance in the Premier League becoming the second-youngest player in Liverpool’s history to reach this milestone in the competition.

  8. Full-time: Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouthpublished at 17:00 19 August

    Have your say

Summer signing Alexis Mac Allister was sent off in his first home match for Liverpool but the Reds still overpowered Bournemouth in a thrilling Premier League match at Anfield.

The Cherries, who had already had a goal disallowed because Jaidon Anthony was offside, scored inside three minutes when the Reds gave away possession and Antoine Semenyo fired into the bottom corner.

Luis Diaz got the equaliser when he collected Diogo Jota's low cross, flicked the ball up, spun and volleyed home.

Argentina World Cup winner Mac Allister, signed in a £35m deal from Brighton, was shown a straight red card midway through the second half when he caught the foot of Ryan Christie.

But the 10 men of Liverpool scored a third when Szoboszlai's low shot was pushed out by Neto and Jota scored from close range.

  10. Sutton's predictions: Liverpool v Bournemouthpublished at 11:14 19 August

Chris Sutton will be making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of rivals. Next up is DJ, producer and Newcastle fan Anish Kumar.

    Sutton's Predictions with Anish Kumar

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

I watched Bournemouth's draw with West Ham last weekend and, after all the hype, I was a bit underwhelmed by the Cherries under new boss Andoni Iraola.

It was Iraola's first game in charge, but I didn't really know what to make of them - maybe that will change here?

I will see for myself because I am at Anfield to cover this one for Radio 5 Live but, even if Bournemouth are better this time, I am expecting Liverpool's attacking players to make the difference. The Reds can use their bench too, and they have so many options up front.

There might still be chances for the Cherries, though. Liverpool were brilliant in the first half against Chelsea but they were disappointing after the break.

It looks like they are bringing Wataru Endo in from Stuttgart to play at the base of their midfield after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

At the moment, that is one area where they look short and it's the reason I am not going with them to get a clean sheet. I'm saying Dominic Solanke will score a consolation for Bournemouth, against his old club.

Anish's prediction: I can't see anything other than a win for the Reds here. Liverpool look lethal going forward with their new signings in midfield. 4-0

  11. Iraola on Adams, 9-0 scars and Anfieldpublished at 12:12 18 August

    Joe Bradshaw, BBC Sport

Andoni Iraola has been speaking to BBC Radio Solent before Bournemouth's trip to Liverpool on Saturday.

    Here are the key lines:

    • He cannot confirm or deny the Cherries have made a move for Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams: "I cannot tell a lot of things as he is not our player right now. I know the club is working to sign players in that number six position because we are short of numbers there."

    • On Adams, Iraola said: "He is a really good player. He has performed in the Champions League, he has national team experience. But I don't want to go too far because right now it's not our player."

    • He concedes Bournemouth are short of options in holding midfield: "I think Marcos [Senesi] could do it but I am not looking at Lloyd Kelly there."

    • Kelly is likely to be involved at Anfield while the rest of the injured players will be missing until after the international break.

    • On any lingering scars in the squad from last season's 9-0 defeat: "It was one year ago and that is a lot of time. Obviously they know it will be always be tough against Liverpool at Anfield but it is a good chance for us to show how far away we are from them."

    • He expects his team to "suffer" at times: "We have to have a very resilient collective attitude and to suffer those minutes when they are pushing, taking corners and crosses. We will have our moments where we can damage them."

    • So far, he has been impressed by the officials: "In the first game, it was really good and at a high level. Always you want the decisions to be on your side but overall the referees are doing a good job to make it a more viewable game."

  12. Liverpool v Bournemouth: Pick of the statspublished at 13:01 17 August

    • Liverpool have won five of their six home league games against Bournemouth (D1), including a 9-0 victory in this exact fixture last season.

    • Bournemouth have never won away against Liverpool in any competition (D1 L8), with a 2-2 draw in April 2017 the only time they've avoided defeat at Anfield.

    • Liverpool haven’t lost their first Premier League home game in any of the last 19 seasons, since a 2-1 loss against Chelsea in 2003-04.

    • Mohamed Salah has scored eight goals in eight Premier League appearances against Bournemouth, though he didn't score in either meeting with the Cherries last season.

    • Patrick Kluivert scored for Newcastle away against Liverpool in December 2004. If his son Justin Kluivert scores for Bournemouth here, they would be the second father/son duo to score a Premier League goal against the Reds at Anfield after Ian Wright and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

    • New signing Dominik Szoboszlai created more chances (3) and made more off-the-ball runs into the box (6) than any other Liverpool player on his debut against Chelsea on MD1.

  13. 'It feels the community still at the forefront' under Foleypublished at 12:30 17 August

    Vitality StadiumImage source, Getty Images

BBC Radio Solent's Kris Temple gives his thoughts on the commercial arm of the club under its American owners: "Lots of companies have put their money into the club, not just when the results have got better. From a commercial and business point of view, of course they need to maximise the contracts they can get but I would not want that to be at the expense of local businesses. They are at the forefront.

"People have got to remember what this club is about. They may be going up to the next level but the heart, soul and fabric of the club is community so they must not go miles away from that.

"Bill Foley has always said this as well and, looking at the support in the stands, the general vibe is that it feels the community is still very much part of it."

Jordan Clark agreed: "You see the new advertising boards at Vitality Stadium and the cycle of the businesses now sponsoring the Cherries. You want the local businesses to still be involved and the club to never forget those that helped them get to the Premier League.

"It's really good to see and perhaps in recent years, we have not had that transparency from the club."

  14. Could Rothwell have bagged himself Lerma's old role?published at 12:51 16 August

    Bournemouth expert view graphic

    Mark Mitchener, BBC Sport

Bournemouth emerged with a very creditable draw against West Ham United in their season opener on Saturday – especially given that only four home games ago, they lost the corresponding fixture 4-0 in April, and also given the Cherries’ injury list.

Adam Smith, Lloyd Kelly, Ryan Fredericks and Marcus Tavernier have been joined in the treatment room by Dango Ouattara, Lewis Cook and new signing Alex Scott – while the move to sign Leeds United'sTyler Adams comes with the caveat that he is also currently injured.

Adams would seem to be the nearest like-for-like replacement for Jefferson Lerma, which Bournemouth have sought since the Colombian opted to join Crystal Palace when his contract expired in the summer.

However, Joe Rothwell has already bagged Lerma’s old number eight shirt – and gave an excellent audition against the Hammers in the defensive midfield 'Lerma role' to suggest that he could be an option there.

By his own admission, Rothwell was not fully fit, and realised after the fifth and final substitution was made in the 75th minute that he would have to stay on for the full 90.

However, while he was caught in possession for the move which led to West Ham’s goal, he drove the Cherries forward from his deeper role throughout the game, and also hit the crossbar with a long-range effort himself.

A first Premier League goal still eludes the ex-Blackburn Rovers man, who was named as the sponsors’ man of the match, though debutant full-backs Milos Kerkez and Max Aarons also impressed, as did the revitalised David Brooks.

A rather unrelenting run of fixtures await Andoni Iraola’s side now – starting at Anfield on Saturday, 357 days after their infamous last visit there.

    Just don’t mention the score…

  15. 'A really positive day' - new podcast assesses Bournemouth's startpublished at 12:50 16 August

    Dominic SolankeImage source, Reuters

On this week's brand new Bournemouth podcast, BBC Radio Solent commentators Jordan Clark and Kris Temple give their assessment on Saturday's opening draw with West Ham United.

Temple: "A really positive day all round and I really enjoyed the day. It would have been harsh if Bournemouth had not got anything.

"We saw a Bournemouth team have nearly two-thirds of the possession, numbers they have not had for a long time. I'll be surprised if every team lets them have that.

"The defensive line was particularly high too, which is going to be great to see. I liked the look of that. People could see they were just waiting for their moment."

Clark: "Joe Rothwell was given man of the match and he was everywhere. I know he gave the ball away for the goal, but I think with the way [Andoni] Iraola plays, those mistakes are going to happen.

"Hopefully they will be on the front foot enough times to correct them and will get it right eventually."

Which player was "a pleasant surprise"? And what new features make Vitality Stadium look "a bit more Premier League"?

    Alex Howell, BBC Sport

West Ham United, Bournemouth and Rangers are all interested in Peterborough centre back Ronnie Edwards.

The 20-year-old played for England at the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina and was part of the England Under-19 squad that won the European Championship in 2022.

Edwards has been the subject of Premier league interest before and made 44 appearances last season for Peterborough in League One.

We asked for your views on Saturday's game between Bournemouth and West Ham.

Here are some of your comments:

    Bournemouth fans

Stew: We're up and running. First impressions for me are really good. Considering the huge change in tactics it was a very good effort. Liverpool is going to be an experience, but bring them on. Time to learn and try not to get beaten 9-0. Fingers crossed everyone.

Drew: Fair result. Very odd officiating in what was and was not a foul - allowed West Ham to bully us. Otherwise a good point earned!

Tom: Not good enough. With the next couple of matches in mind, we need to improve!

    West Ham fans

Ian: I was expecting the worst after the summer we have had and no new signings on show. However, I thought we played OK at times and could easily have won. Bowen scored a cracker. Get some new signings in and we could well have a decent season.

Andy: New season, same tactics. Get ourselves a goal up and then sit back and just invite them to come at us. Worked amazingly well for us last season didn’t it? Dinosaur football in a space-race era!

Fin: Moyes' style of football is too negative. We score a goal and look good and then his tactics make us sit back and soak pressure up. Our defence isn't capable of dealing with it. When will Moyes learn that our players aren't made to sit back? If we kept attacking after our goal I think we could've scored one or two more. We need to change.

Vernon: Decent point. Probably did enough to win - only a lucky late goal denied us.
