    Your Views

We asked for your views on Saturday's game between Tottenham and Manchester United.

Here are some of your comments:

    Tottenham fans

Mark: Started sloppy and Man Utd had better of the first half but we grew into the game and bossed the second half. We deserved to win. Also Porro finally showed he can defend. Our midfield of Sarr, Bissouma and Maddison looked excellent with Bentancur still to come back. The goalkeeper was excellent as well. Bissouma Man of the match.

Jim: Good performance again by Spurs, nice to see us going forward. Main worry is lack of interest from Son. Yes, he's improved from last week but he still has the bad habit of stopping and walking after a bit of effort instead of continuing support. Not captain material for me.

Tony: I’m excited by what I’ve seen in two games under Ange and while I’m sure there will be bumps in the road, it gives me confidence that he was the right appointment at the right time. Clearly Kane is a massive loss but there are a number of other players in the squad that need to move on. Richarlison will never fill Kane’s boots.

Kevin: What a great first home game against United. Yes - they were nervous, especially trying out a new system. They rode their luck in the first half, however in the second half Spurs found the confidence to pass the ball around and provide opportunities to score. Young, new players will only get better. Maddison and Bissouma, were outstanding.

    Manchester United fans

John: Every Time Manchester United take to the pitch they are pretty much playing with 10 men. Marcus Rashford is lazy, doesn't tackle, never wins a header outside of the opposition's penalty area, and if you analyse his commitment to the team, he isn't committed enough to wear the shirt. United should sell him ASAP - from a 63-year follower of United.

GD: No fluidity or flair. Man Utd seem to be playing in an almost robotic fashion with too many players scared to take risks. Midfield players are too easy to play through and Rashford isn't a centre-forward. Need Hojlund available asap and possibly bring in another striker.

Brian: Rashford, Antony, Mount, Sancho, Martial are not up to the standard required to be a United player. Shaw far too often finds himself out of position when defending. This season promises mediocrity at best, unless the team gets some real bite and desire in midfield and in the box.

Alan: United are in disarray (again). Uninspired signings, another lacklustre performance by the players and poor tactics did us again, unlike the attacking intent of Spurs. The danger signs were there to see at Wolves, yet the same team was played again?

  2. 'We haven't seen this from Tottenham in so long'published at 09:33 21 August

    Yves BissoumaImage source, Getty Images

Danny Murphy hailed Tottenham's performance against Manchester United as "terrific" and one that fans have been waiting a long time for.

Saturday's win over Erik ten Hag's side was Spurs' their first ever Premier League win over United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the fifth attempt.

Murphy told Match of the Day: "Bissouma and Sarr, the two lads in midfield, complimented by Maddison, were outstanding.

"Their athleticism, bravery and quality on the ball was great. Bissouma looked like he was enjoying himself throughout.

"It was so open from United, we haven't seen this from Tottenham in so long, where someone can go into the box and create problems.

    "It was a terrific performance."

  4. Analysis: Tottenham 2-0 Man Utdpublished at 08:13 20 August

Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Ange Postecoglou’s introduction to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the catalyst for an atmosphere not seen here in a very long time and a new attacking style that brought a thrilling and deserved win over Manchester United.

The game was prefaced by protests against Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and owners ENIC over new ticket pricing and the sale of club record scorer Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on the eve of the season.

It ended with joyous scenes and the new manager receiving a hero’s ovation as the front foot attacking style that is Postecoglou’s hallmark was fully in evidence in an impressive 2-0 victory.

New signing James Maddison revelled in the freedom afforded by Postecoglou’s approach while another summer acquisition, goalkeeper Gugliemo Vicario was also highly impressive.

In midfield Pape Matar Sarr not only scored the opening goal but played his part as Manchester United’s midfield were strictly second best but the game’s outstanding performer was another figure in the Spurs engine room, Yves Bissouma.

Bissouma was a star turn in the opening weekend draw with Brentford and produced again here, finally looking like the player Spurs thought they had bought from Brighton before the start of last season.

There is a long road ahead but the first steps under Postecoglou will have left Spurs supporters feeling optimistic and refreshed.

  5. 'Tottenham deserved winners, United lacking'published at 20:23 19 August

Ex-England winger Chris Waddle on BBC Radio 5 Live: "Tottenham have deserved it, you can't say they haven't. They have been excellent, a big pat on the back for them.

"Skill, entertainment, desire, all very high level.

"Manchester United, I don't what is happening with them at the minute. They need to find the right balance, get a proper number nine and get Rashford back on that left hand side.

"Ten Hag has tried the same team twice now and it hasn't worked, plenty of thinking to do and questions to ask."

  6. 'We have to keep positives going'published at 20:23 19 August

    Son Heung-minImage source, Getty Images

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min to BBC Match of the Day: "Very good and very special obviously. It's a special opponent, and a first home win against United in this stadium so it was really, really good. But credit to the players they gave everything from the start to the end. Almost 100 minutes so I'm very happy."

On Spurs' trophy chances: "It's too early to talk, we still have so many games. The fans were fantastic, there's no doubt about it, but it's too early because we have to give everything. We never know for the end of the season but to win something we have to give everything for the shirt.

"It's very good and everyone is very positive, looking forward to playing for this team. We have to keep going with this positive energy, when we have a good time, but also, when we're not having a good time."

  7. Tottenham 2-0 Man Utd: What Postecoglou saidpublished at 19:52 19 August

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou to BBC Sport: "It was good. It was fair to say we looked a bit nervous at the start which wasn't surprising. We had two 20-year-olds, a couple of 22-year-olds out there. So I thought we gave the ball away a little bit too much and to be fair Man Utd probably had the better of the chances.

"I like the fact that we hang in there and worked our way into the game. Second half, certainly in spells, it kind of showed the team we want to be. I keep saying we're still a long way to go but I really liked the belief and resilience the guys have and the bravery they have to continue playing that way.

"I guess from my perspective, when you have quite a few young quality players it's great, it allows us to build with this young group. I thought the experienced guys today, Son [Heung-min] and [James] Maddison were great as well.

"The support was outstanding today, right from the first whistle the crowd were outstanding. They carried us through the first half because we were nervy.

"I'm happy. We're showing bits of our game today. I saw enough today in our game that encourages me. All we can do is keep improving and hopefully we're picking up points along the way."

  9. Full-time: Tottenham 2-0 Man Utdpublished at 19:34 19 August

    Have your say

Ange Postecoglou enjoyed his first Premier League win as Tottenham manager thanks to two second-half goals against Manchester United.

Pape Matar Sarr put the hosts ahead with his first Spurs goal, cooly guiding home a side-footed half-volley from six yards after Dejan Kulusevski's cross ricocheted off Lisandro Martinez.

Red Devils defender Martinez then scuffed Ben Davies' mis-hit shot past his own keeper Andre Onana to gift Spurs a second late on to put the result beyond doubt.

  12. Sutton's predictions: Tottenham v Man Utdpublished at 11:15 19 August

Chris Sutton will be making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of rivals. Next up is DJ, producer and Newcastle fan Anish Kumar.

    Sutton's Predictions with Anish Kumar

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Manchester United's away form let them down badly last season, but the way Spurs play might suit Erik ten Hag's side.

Tottenham's set-up under Ange Postecoglou leaves them vulnerable on the break, and we know United have got the players to capitalise.

I also see Tottenham as a work in progress at the moment. They dominated possession in their draw with Brentford last week and played some really good stuff at times, and I like their system, with inverted full-backs getting forward.

But I don't think their frontline is firing properly yet, and I am not sure they have the right players to make Postecoglou's tactics work. Even so, he will not compromise.

United did not really get going against Wolves, but still took the three points despite being miles off the pace.

This game will be just as close, but I am going with Ten Hag's side to nick it again, even if I am not convinced by United either. How can I be?

I've now tipped Postecoglou's side to lose their opening two matches, but give him time and he will get it right. In a couple of months, Spurs will be absolutely flying and I will be backing them, heavily.

It's just the early part of the season where I worry for him and Spurs a bit, especially against a United side who counter-attack so well.

Anish's prediction: I'm going with Spurs. Manchester United relied on their home form last year so this prediction has got nothing to do with our defeat in last year's Carabao Cup final. 1-0

  13. 'We have to prove ourselves' - Postecoglou on fans' supportpublished at 08:48 19 August

    Ange PostecoglouImage source, Getty Images

Ange Postecoglou is hopeful his first home Premier League game will offer glimpses of the style he is trying to impose at Tottenham.

Spurs were entertaining in a 2-2 draw at Brentford to open the season and the new boss agreed there were positive signs on show in west London.

However, he insisted there was a long way to go in the process and hoped to repay the "faith" of the club's supporters.

"They have been very supportive and I don't expect that or deserve it," he said. "We have still got to prove ourselves to our fans by our deeds, not by our words.

"We have got to back it up and improve weekly and hopefully, we will give them some belief in what we are trying to create."

Known for a high-octane style during his successful spell at Celtic, Postecoglou insisted it can take time to establish things at a new club.

"Everywhere I work takes a different amount," he said. "But there has always been a happy ending.

"Beginnings are always challenging and how long they last depends upon a lot of things. I don't put a timeline on them because I do not want to load that expectation onto players.

"I fully understand results are the only measure - my plan is to win - but I want everyone talking about the way we play. Football that excites has always been my marker, and then that taking us to success."

  14. Why are some Spurs fans protesting?published at 18:11 18 August

  15. Postecoglou addresses planned fan protestpublished at 16:03 18 August

    Ange PostecoglouImage source, Reuters

Ange Postecoglou says supporters "have their right to express their emotions" before a planned protest by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST) on Saturday.

THST have called an hour-long demonstration to take place before the game against Manchester United over the club's decision to raise the price of matchday tickets.

"It's only natural when football clubs have a disappointing period that there is going to be an environment where some people are unhappy," Postecoglou said.

"My role within that is to hopefully get people to focus on what we're all here for and that is the football club.

"There is no doubt we will get there more quickly if we are united on and off the field, but I have never and will never tell people how they should feel, how they should behave or the context of how to express their emotions.

"That is their right and they have earned their right to do that. My role is to produce a team that gets us united to what is most important."

  16. Postecoglou on striker plans, style and signs of improvementpublished at 13:43 18 August

    Joe Bradshaw, BBC Sport

Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media before Tottenham’s game against Manchester United on Sunday.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • Cristian Romero is fit after being withdrawn from the Brentford game due to concussion concerns: "He is good to go. He has been going through all the protocols and has ticked all the boxes. He has felt fine all week."

    • He gave no guarantees Spurs were planning to sign a striker: "That is the obvious place people look at because of recent outgoings but we have been planning for that a while. There are still areas we can strengthen in all our lines and any new signing has to fit our profile. We are purposefully going younger because we are building a team."

    • On the prospect of Hugo Lloris leaving Spurs: "I have very little control. My focus has to be on what's in front of us. He is obviously training but I am assuming as we get closer to the deadline, that'll accelerate."

    • He does not take the support of the fans for granted: "I love what it means because for the most part it's blind faith as I have not delivered anything yet. I appreciate that but it is also a really good reminder of the responsibility I have as an individual. I have got to pay that faith back and start producing stuff that is substantial."

    • He is measuring improvement by the style of football played: "A strong performance is what I am after. My plan is to win but within that context, I want to play our football, show progress from last week and impose our game against a good opponent. Hopefully that gives us momentum."

    • On Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag: "You can see he has made an impact at a club where it has been difficult to do so since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. He has earned the right to coach one of the biggest clubs in the world and done a good job."

  17. 'Who wouldn't want to live in Monaco?'published at 09:28 18 August

It is "sad" how Davinson Sanchez's career has petered out at Tottenham, says Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards with the defender edging closer to a move to Monaco.

Speaking on Transfer Gossip Daily, Edwards said: "He has been there since 2017, having cost £42m from Ajax. Back then, that was not the average transfer fee it seems to be now. He has had an OK Tottenham career and has probably been one of my favourite characters in the Premier League. He likes the dark arts and winding up the opposition.

"He played in the golden era under Mauricio Pochettino. I think when Tottenham fans look back, they will regret booing him on and off the pitch against Bournemouth last season. That really is a point of no return for the player but was actually a by-product of the general unrest at Spurs.

"No player should be singled out for that treatment by their own club supporters. As for Monaco - who wouldn't want to go and live there?"
